Heightened concern for student safety is sweeping the communities of Patchogue, Medford, Bellport, Bayport, and Blue Point.
Following unsettling incidents at Bellport High School, many families are again questioning if current security efforts are enough to protect students each day.
At a recent South Country school board meeting, worried parents demanded more transparency and stronger responses to campus issues, reflecting persistent anxiety about daily school safety.
District leaders promised firm action, reiterating their zero-tolerance stance and warning that individuals threatening security could face expulsion.
Still, doubts remain after last year’s budget cuts reduced security staff from 26 to 22 officers across area schools, a move many believe undermines safety.
