Spring is picking up across our towns, and this week’s stories bring a little bit of everything. We’re looking at strong student achievements in Bayport-Blue Point, a vehicle fire in North Bellport, and a growing list of local events in Bellport and Patchogue. From school pride to community gatherings, it’s another full week close to home.

Firefighters worked to put out a blazing SUV on Sunrise Highway in North Bellport. The vehicle was fully engulfed in flames.

In April, Patchogue is hosting an EV Sustainability Fair to promote electric vehicles and educate the community about sustainability. The event will help people make informed decisions about eco-friendly transportation.

Firefighters in North Bellport battled a fully engulfed SUV on Sunrise Highway. The cause of the fire is not yet known.

Sanctuary Health, a wellness center in Patchogue, is run by Kelly Reilly and offers a variety of holistic healing services. They recently opened in Patchogue.

Brookhaven Supervisor Dan Panico has announced the highly anticipated return of the Safe Summer Program for local teens and young adults.

This free, supervised initiative provides community youth ages 13 to 20 with a welcoming space to enjoy summer nights without drugs or alcohol.

Hosted by the Brookhaven Youth Bureau and Suffolk County Police Department, the program offers live music, sports, and social gatherings throughout July and early August 2026.

Events will take place at Cedar Beach in Mount Sinai on Thursday evenings, Martha Avenue Park in Bellport from Tuesday to Thursday, and Mastic Athletic Complex on Wednesday through Friday nights.

Sessions run from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, giving teens a chance to connect, build friendships, and feel supported within their community.

Local families are encouraged to participate and help make this summer safe and memorable for Brookhaven youth.

Bayport-Blue Point School District is celebrating a vibrant spring, marked by outstanding student achievements and dynamic programming at every level.

Two high school students took center stage as lead participants at the Suffolk County Regional Forum, reflecting the district’s strong commitment to nurturing future leaders with county-wide impact.

Meanwhile, the school community is alive with activity. The high school music department is preparing eagerly for spring concerts, while athletic teams have kicked off their competitive spring seasons.

At Blue Point Elementary, children experienced the excitement of “Red Carpet Night” alongside the Scholastic Book Fair, bringing families together for fun and literacy.

The Academy’s recent “Secret World of Robots” assembly encouraged young learners to explore STEM and technology.

With 53 clubs and honor societies, the district ensures every student can discover activities that inspire them.

Kailey Bruckner excels in soccer, basketball, and lacrosse at Bayport-Blue Point High School, earning an athletic scholarship to Towson University.

• A free Bicycle Rodeo will take place March 28 where kids can practice riding in a mock roadway and learn bicycle safety skills.

• The Village of Bellport will be holding Voter Registration Day on Saturday, March 28, 2026 from the hours of 12:00 noon to 5:00 pm at Bellport Village Hall, 29 Bellport Lane.

• Patchogue Medford Youth & Community Services is hosting its annual Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, April 4, 2026 at the North Patchogue Fire Department with two seatings from 8 to 9:30 AM and 10 to 11:30 AM. Tickets are $20 for adults 18 and up, $10 for kids ages 5 to 17, and free for children under 5.

• Plaza Cinema & Media Arts Center is screening MIDWINTER BREAK from March 27 through April 2 at its theater on Terry Street in Patchogue. You can check showtimes and details directly with Plaza Cinema & Media Arts Center.
