Good Morning,

From heroic rescues to student athletes signing for college, it’s been a busy week across Patchogue and nearby towns. Local police reunited with the man they saved from a burning car, while Patchogue-Medford seniors celebrated the next step in their sports careers.

Here’s what’s happening around town.

The historic Swan River Schoolhouse on Rowe Avenue in East Patchogue is welcoming visitors again after a major restoration by the Town of Brookhaven Parks Department.

This 19th-century one-room schoolhouse underwent essential repairs, with a new foundation, subfloor replacements, roof work, and restored interior floors ensuring long-term preservation.

Managed by the Greater Patchogue Historical Society and Suffolk County, the schoolhouse remains a living window into the area’s educational past, still featuring original slateboards and authentic textbooks once used by local students.

A highlight is the original bell, which famously called children to class and survived the 1938 hurricane—a sound visitors can still enjoy.

The site also includes a historic railroad shanty and offers guided tours and educational programs for families and history enthusiasts.

Contact the Greater Patchogue Historical Society online to experience these community treasures and explore Patchogue’s unique educational history.
