Summer is in full swing with July 4 events, concerts, art shows, and Alive After Five returning to Patchogue. We also have important local updates on a Bayport crash, a car fire in Patchogue, heat wave plans, mosquito spraying, and a new McDonald’s planned for Medford. • Suffolk To Spray Davis Park, South Shore Areas for Mosquitoes – The Suffolk County Department of Public Works will treat sections of Davis Park on Fire Island and other mainland areas this week to control adult mosquitoes. Davis Park will be treated Wednesday from 5:30 to 9 p.m. with ground spraying of Anvil on streets and boardwalks. Hedges Creek and Lyman Marsh will be treated by helicopter. Treatments run Tuesday-Wednesday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Learn more →

• Bellport Village 2026 Summer Concert Series – The Village has announced its annual summer concert series lineup for 2026. Concerts are held at the Village Gazebo. For the complete schedule of performers and dates, download the official concert series program. Download full schedule (PDF) →

• Brookhaven Extends Beach, Pool, and Rec Center Hours for Heat Wave – The Town of Brookhaven is extending operating hours at beaches, pools, and recreation centers Thursday, July 2 through Friday, July 3 due to the impending heat wave. Lifeguards will be on duty at Corey Beach (Blue Point), West Meadow Beach (Stony Brook), and Cedar Beach (Mount Sinai) from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Pools in Holtsville and Centereach will be open 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Recreation centers in Mount Sinai, Mastic, Blue Point, and Centereach will be open 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Learn more →

• Brookhaven Adjusts Sanitation Schedule for Heat Wave – Garbage and recycling collection will begin at 5 a.m. Wednesday through Friday this week to protect sanitation workers from hazardous midday temperatures. Wednesday, July 1: Recycling begins at 5 a.m. Thursday, July 2 and Friday, July 3: Household refuse begins at 5 a.m. Residents should place items at the curb earlier than usual to ensure pickup before temperatures rise. • Bellport Village Credit Rating Affirmed at AA+ with Stable Outlook – S&P Global Ratings has affirmed Bellport Village's AA+ long-term rating on its general obligation bonds, maintaining a stable outlook. The rating reflects the village's strong wealth levels and expectation that reserve levels will remain above $1 million. The stable outlook indicates balanced-to-positive operating results are expected to continue.

• Alive After Five Returns for 25th Anniversary – Patchogue's premier summer street festival kicks off July 2nd for its 25th annual celebration, also commemorating America's 250th anniversary. The festival runs Thursdays from 5-9pm on July 2, 16, 30, and August 13 (rain date: August 20). Expect 15,000-25,000 visitors each night, live music across multiple stages, 120+ vendors, outdoor dining, a children's area with face painting and crafts, and local artists and performers. • 2026 July 4th Fireworks and Events Guide for Brookhaven – Celebrate America's 250th anniversary with these local events: Thursday, July 2 - Alive on the River and Alive After 5 in Patchogue (5-10pm); Friday, July 3 - Freedom Fest at Brookhaven Amphitheater (4pm), Perler Beads Craft in Patchogue (5-6pm); Saturday, July 4 - Port Jefferson Parade (10am), Artists on the Lane in Bellport (10am-3pm), Patchogue Parade (10:30am), William Floyd Estate in Mastic Beach (9am-4:30pm). • McDonald's Coming to Medford – McDonald's has purchased a 2.11-acre parcel at 647 Patchogue-Yaphank Road for $3.3 million to build a new 3,750-square-foot restaurant with two drive-thru lanes. The site plan was approved by the Town of Brookhaven last August. The fast-food chain plans to open in late fall. The parcel is part of a 12.5-acre commercial development that also includes zoning for another restaurant, a gas station with convenience store, and a self-storage facility. Read full story →

• Bayport Aerodrome Society Flyover for Patchogue 4th of July Parade – The Bayport Aerodrome Society will perform a flyover for the Patchogue Chamber of Commerce 4th of July parade on Saturday, July 4. The flight will pass over Main Street at approximately 12:00 p.m. Celebrate America's 250th anniversary with this special aerial display before the parade festivities begin.

• 68th Annual Artists on the Lane – The South Bay Art Association presents its annual outdoor art show featuring local artists displaying their work along Bellport Lane.  Learn more →

• Alive on the River – Thursday, July 2 from 5:00 PM – 10:00 PM. Kick off your Independence Day weekend on the Patchogue River with live music, waterfront views, festive drinks, and summer fun at Patchogue's favorite riverfront destinations. Learn more →
