The Patchogue Community Development Agency voted unanimously to seek $150,000 in Community Development Block Grant funding from the Town of Brookhaven to upgrade accessibility at the Joseph E. Keys Recreation Center.

The proposed project aims to remove barriers for disabled residents by adding curb cuts and accessible pathways, making the soccer field, basketball courts, and community gardens more inclusive, especially for wheelchair users.

David Bell of Brookhaven explained that the funding fulfills federal mandates to support low- and moderate-income communities and enhance disabled access.

The grant would allocate $115,000 toward these improvements, with remaining funds supporting administration and housing services.

Additionally, a new federal rule now requires all local housing assistance recipients to verify citizenship status, raising concerns among board members about privacy and access.

The meeting also considered Lizbeth Carrillo for a new leadership role after her recent housing policy training.
