Blizzard Totals, Fires, and Local Honors

Brian Grant
Feb 25, 2026
Good Morning,
The blizzard has moved on, but its impact is still being felt across our towns. We have the final snow totals from cities across the Northeast, along with stories of local crews who worked through whiteout conditions to keep roads safe.
There is also news on a house fire in North Bellport, honors for hometown athletes, and neighbors stepping up to serve through the Auxiliary Police. As we look ahead, spring events, community gatherings, and important village updates are already on the calendar.

The Suffolk County Auxiliary Police welcomes new volunteers eager to support public safety across Suffolk County.
This dedicated volunteer force, part of the Suffolk County Police Department, plays a crucial role during patrols, community events, severe weather, and major emergencies.
Volunteers complete about 230 hours of free training, earning New York State Peace Officer certification and taking annual refresher courses.
Auxiliary officers contribute a minimum of ten service hours per month, assisting with festivals, parades, traffic details, and disaster response.
Recruitment is active countywide. Applicants must be local residents, meet age and licensing requirements, and pass medical and fitness checks.
While this program does not offer hiring preference for full-time police jobs, it provides a civil service exam fee waiver to approved volunteers.
Interested residents can learn more or apply by contacting the Emergency Management Unit via email or phone for detailed information. Read More... |
