The Town of Brookhaven recently brought veterans and active-duty members of the U.S. Armed Forces together for a complimentary fishing trip at Captree State Park, offering a day of recreation, camaraderie and appreciation for their service.
The outing included fishing excursions from Captree State Park, with transportation, lunch, fishing equipment, bait and tackle provided at no cost to participants. The event was supported by the Long Island Home Builders Care Group, Brookhaven Town Supervisor Dan Panico, trip organizer Steven A. Castleton, Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army (Ret.), Coachman and other community partners.
Organizers said the trip was about more than fishing. It provided veterans and active-duty service members with an opportunity to spend time together, share experiences and connect in a relaxed environment.
Panico thanked the organizations and individuals who helped make the event possible, saying the outing was an opportunity to give back to those who have served while bringing members of the military community together. According to the town, the event received a strong turnout and organizers hope to continue it next year.
