Patchogue-Medford's sports legends have a new place to shine, and you will not need a ticket to see it.

On Monday, Sept. 28, the Patchogue-Medford Library unveiled a new exhibit created with the Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame that honors athletes with Pat-Med roots.

The display celebrates the hometown names who went on to leave a mark on Suffolk County sports history.

It gives residents of every age a reason to stop in, look up, and spot a few familiar faces.

The Hall of Fame, a nonprofit founded in 1990, has spent more than three decades honoring people who made substantial contributions to sports in Suffolk County.

This year, it set out to bring those stories closer to the neighborhoods that produced them.

As part of its America 250 initiative, the Hall has been placing exhibits inside local libraries across the county throughout 2026.

The effort kicked off at the Brentwood Public Library and has since reached Hauppauge, Lindenhurst, Bay Shore-Brightwaters and Sayville.

Right next door, the Bayport-Blue Point Library opened its own Hall of Fame display in May.

Now Pat-Med joins that growing list, turning local sports history into something you can see on an ordinary trip to the library.

The timing feels fitting.

This year's induction class included Marcus Stroman, a Patchogue-Medford High School graduate and one of the most accomplished pitchers ever to come out of Long Island.

Stroman starred at Duke, went in the first round of the 2012 MLB Draft, and earned two All-Star selections over a career that included stops with both the Mets and the Yankees.

His rise is the kind of story that makes a young athlete in Medford believe the big leagues are not so far away.

The library itself makes a fitting home for the display.

Its roots stretch back to 1883, and it has long served as the Central Library for all of Suffolk County.

Exhibits like this one do more than hang photos on a wall.

They preserve the memories of local champions before they fade, and they hand the next generation a few names worth chasing.

Whether you played on those fields yourself or cheered from the bleachers, the new display is worth a visit.

Stop by the Patchogue-Medford Library on Main Street and see how many faces you recognize.
