Run the Farm Returns to Centereach for 12th Anniversary
Runners, walkers and families will gather in Centereach on Saturday, Aug. 15, for the 12th anniversary of the Run the Farm 4-Miler Run/Walk, an annual event that combines exercise and community support for Bethel Hobbs Community Farm.
The rain-or-shine event begins with a Kids Fun Run at 8:30 a.m., followed by the four-mile run and walk at 9 a.m. The starting line is at Oxhead Elementary School, 144 Oxhead Road, before participants make their way toward the finish at Bethel Hobbs Community Farm.
The course offers a little of everything. Participants begin with roughly two miles of relatively flat terrain before encountering rolling hills and two challenging climbs on the way to the farm.
Proceeds from the event will support improvements to the farm’s handicap-accessible garden. Bethel Hobbs Community Farm is an all-volunteer nonprofit operating on 11 acres in Centereach, where organically grown produce is donated to local food pantries.
The event will also feature refreshments, food and water, awards and family activities. Awards will recognize top overall finishers, age-group competitors, an active military member or veteran, and wheelchair athletes. The first 250 participants receive a T-shirt, and runners receive a promotional goodie bag. Those unable to attend in person can participate in the virtual four-mile option. Community members can also support the farm through additional donations.
Registration and complete race information are available on the event page. |
