Patchogue Mural Artists: $2,000 Stipend Available for Library Wall Project |
The Patchogue Arts Council is accepting submissions from experienced muralists to transform the Patchogue-Medford Library's 60-foot rear wall |
Have you ever driven past a building and thought, "That blank wall needs some color"?
Well, here's your chance to actually do something about it.
The Patchogue Arts Council, in partnership with the Patchogue-Medford Library, is officially accepting submissions from muralists who want to transform a highly visible 60-foot wall into something extraordinary.
This Patchogue Mural Project Comes with Real Support
This isn't one of those "exposure only" opportunities artists roll their eyes at.
The selected muralist walks away with a $2,000 stipend plus donated supplies, professional video documentation of their work, and a solo satellite gallery exhibit. That's the kind of package that shows real respect for working artists.
The wall itself is approximately 11 feet high by 60 feet long. It's on the rear of the library, facing a high-traffic area where thousands of locals will see it every week.
No Theme Restrictions This Year
Here's something refreshing: there's no specific theme for this year's mural.
The Patchogue Arts Council is giving artists creative freedom to pitch what moves them. Whether you want to celebrate local history, showcase abstract expressionism, or bring something completely unexpected to the neighborhood, the canvas is yours to define.
That said, prior mural experience is required. This is a professional commission, not a learning project. You'll need to show evidence of previous large-scale work as part of your submission.
What You Need to Submit
The application process is thorough but fair. Artists must provide design plans, a materials list, budget breakdown, preparatory drawings, CV or resume, bio, artist statement, and evidence of previous mural experience (maximum 10 images).
It's a comprehensive package, but that's what separates serious applicants from casual interest.
Important Deadlines to Remember
Mark your calendars carefully. The submission deadline is April 10. Artists will be notified by May 1. Installation happens between June 1 and June 29.
That gives selected artists about a month to prepare materials and coordinate with the library team before painting begins.
Why This Matters for Patchogue
Public art does something powerful for a community. It turns ordinary spaces into conversation starters. It gives residents pride in their neighborhood. And it signals to visitors that Patchogue is a place that values creativity and culture.
The Patchogue-Medford Library has long been a community anchor. Adding a bold mural to its exterior extends that welcoming spirit into the streets. It's free art that everyone gets to enjoy, whether they have a library card or not.
Plus, projects like this keep talented artists living and working on Long Island instead of fleeing to bigger cities. When we invest in local creatives, we all benefit from the energy they bring.
How to Apply
Ready to throw your hat in the ring? Contact the Patchogue Arts Council at PAC ⢠MOCA L.I. for full submission guidelines.
You can reach them at (631) 627-8686, visit their gallery at 20 Terry Street in Patchogue, or head to PatchogueArts.org for more details.
Don't sleep on this one. April 10 will be here before you know it. And that 60-foot wall is waiting for someone with vision, skill, and a story to tell.
Could that someone be you? |
