Bayport's Tim Mullins Concludes Leadership as NYSPHSAA President Bayport-Blue Point's Tim Mullins presided over his final New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Central Committee meeting this week, closing a two-year term as Association president marked by efforts to strengthen educational athletics across New York State.
Mullins, Director of Physical Education, Health and Interscholastic Sports at Bayport-Blue Point High School, led the annual summer meeting in Buffalo where the Central Committee approved championship venue selections, adopted several sport-specific proposals, and reviewed progress on the Association's Strategic Plan. His term officially concludes on Aug. 31, with Adam Stoltman, superintendent of Alden Central Schools, set to become the next NYSPHSAA president on Sept. 1.
Reflecting on his tenure, Mullins thanked member schools, volunteers, committees, and staff for their commitment to student-athletes, expressing confidence in the Association's future and its continued mission to provide meaningful opportunities through interscholastic sports.
Among the key decisions approved during the meeting were new championship sites for boys swimming and diving and wrestling dual meets, a revised girls volleyball classification formula, the adoption of USA Wrestling junior weight classes for girls wrestling, and changes to postseason bowling competition. The committee also approved new sportsmanship guidance encouraging respectful play during lopsided contests while rejecting a proposal to revise the Class D regional rotation in boys soccer.
The meeting concluded with discussions on the future of NYSPHSAA's Strategic Plan, laying the groundwork for continued improvements in high school athletics across the state. For the Bayport-Blue Point community, Mullins' leadership at the state level highlights the district's lasting impact on educational athletics throughout New York.
