Something remarkable is taking shape along the streets of downtown Patchogue and it glows.

MoCA LI Lights 2026 is returning to transform the Village of Patchogue into a sprawling open-air museum of light, animation, and digital artistry. This year's theme is Antiquity to Innovation and may be the most ambitious the festival has ever tackled.

Organized by the Patchogue Arts Council, the annual Patchogue art festival arrives at a uniquely meaningful moment: the 250th anniversary of American independence.

Rather than simply celebrate, the festival uses that milestone as a lens that traces the arc of human creativity from pigment and chisel all the way through electricity, projection, and immersive digital media.

It's a bold concept, and downtown Patchogue, already one of Long Island's most culturally active corridors, is exactly the right canvas for it.

This year's MoCA LI Lights 2026 festival runs October 22 through 26, with nightly programming from 6:00 to 11:00 PM, and includes three distinct exhibition experiences spread across the village.

The first, Art on the Marquee, places artist-created videos, animations, and digital works directly on the iconic digital marquee of the Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts, running from October through December 2026.

The second, Lights on MoCA LI, turns the facade of the Patchogue Arts Council building itself into a vertical projection gallery — a curated rotating showcase drawn from an international open call.

The third component, Night Visions, may be the most immersive of all.

Pop-up projection screens placed throughout the village — including at Roe Walkway Plaza, The Better Man Distilling Co., and the Plaza Cinema and Media Arts Center — will pull foot traffic deeper into the downtown, turning a casual evening stroll into an unexpected gallery experience.

Artists submitting work are encouraged to explore the space between traditional and digital — stop motion, claymation, rotoscoping, hand-drawn animation, collage animation, and experimental film are all welcomed forms, though the call is deliberately broad.

The Patchogue Arts Council has long positioned itself as a serious incubator for working artists, and the open international call for this festival reflects that ambition.

That ambition is backed by real institutional momentum — a recent multi-million dollar state grant has fueled plans for a new cultural arts center on Main Street in East Patchogue, underscoring how decisively the region is investing in its creative identity.

For residents and visitors alike, the MoCA LI Lights 2026 Patchogue art festival is free, walkable, and unmissable.
