A new equine exhibit, an antiques evening and two history talks fill out September at the historic Bayport estate |

The Bayport-Blue Point Heritage Association's Meadow Croft estate is in full swing this month, with weekend house tours continuing through October alongside a run of talks and social events tied to the group's mission of preserving local history.
Meadow Croft tours run Saturdays and Sundays from 2 to 4 p.m., led by trained docents through the former Roosevelt family summer estate. The newly refurbished carriage house has a new addition: Humbug, a horse once owned by the Roosevelt family. Groups of 10 or more can arrange a private tour by emailing the association.
On Saturday, September 12, from 6 to 8 p.m., estate and property manager Mark Lagnese hosts "Heirlooms & Hidden Treasures," an Antiques Roadshow-style evening covering gold, silver, fine art, Tiffany glass and other collectibles, with guests invited to bring their own item for an informal appraisal. Tickets are $35, and the event is open to BBPHA members.
Local author and journalist Linda Leuzzi visits Meadow Croft's ladies parlor on Friday, September 25 at 6:30 p.m. for a talk on her new novel "Car Dogs," a coming-of-age story featuring a character based on a real Bayport Aerodrome pilot who flew during World War II and later worked for the Roosevelt family at Meadow Croft. No registration is required.
The association's first general membership meeting of the season follows on Sunday, September 27, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Bayport-Blue Point Library. Historian Robert Viagas presents "What Entertained the Founding Fathers," exploring the dances, songs and theater of the era in honor of the country's 250th anniversary.
Looking ahead, the association is already recruiting volunteers for its signature holiday event, Christmas at Meadow Croft, set for December 5 and 6.
