The Town of Brookhaven will hold the Brookhaven Country Fair at the Longwood Estate on Saturday, September 19 and Sunday, September 20, tying this year's fair to a celebration of America's 250th anniversary.

Saturday runs from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., with the band Southbound performing from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with Southbound performing from 4 to 6 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring a chair. New this year, the fair adds a beer tent and live music, with Blue Point Brewing Co. on hand.

The rest of the lineup keeps the fair's usual mix: historical reenactments and demonstrations, food, children's activities, a dog show, the Tesla Museum, a vintage apron show, house museum tours and craft vendors. New vendors are welcome and can call 631-924-1820 for details.

Admission is $5 per ticket. Children 6 and under are free and will receive a "Passport to the Past." Parking is free, with a complimentary shuttle available from Longwood Junior High School. The fair is pet friendly, though pets must be leashed and well behaved.

Longwood Estate is located at the corner of Longwood Road and Smith Road in Ridge. The estate's manor house has been passed down through generations dating back to before 1817. In 1973, developers Wilbur Breslin and Herbert Carmel purchased the property for commercial and industrial development, a plan that drew strong opposition from Brookhaven Town officials and area residents. In 1974, Breslin and Carmel instead donated the manor house and 35 acres of land to the Town of Brookhaven. Over its two-hundred-year history, the house has seen fallow periods along with a notable sixty-year "Golden Age" of love, family and bustling activity, and it now hosts a range of activities for residents to enjoy throughout the year.
