Homeschool families in the Patchogue area have a hands-on option coming up on Thursday, October 15.

Forgotten Skillz is bringing its SkillCraft Lab to Shorefront Park for kids ages 11 to 14.

The outdoor session runs from noon to 1:30 p.m.

Tickets are listed at $15.

SkillCraft Lab is built around learning by doing.

Participants use practical activities to build problem-solving skills, teamwork, and real-world confidence.

Each session centers on a different topic, so both hands and minds stay busy.

It is a refreshing break from worksheets and screens.

Forgotten Skillz programs often range from wilderness skills to historic crafts, though each session has its own focus.

The workshop also doubles as Module 1 of the Praxis: Pathfinders Program.

That broader series links practical skills to science and engineering literacy, leadership, personal development, and applied challenges.

In other words, this single afternoon is also the doorway to a longer experiential program.

Because the lab takes place outdoors, families should plan ahead.

Organizers advise dressing for the weather and wearing sturdy footwear.

They also recommend taking precautions against ticks.

Shorefront Park is located at 49 Smith Street in Patchogue.

Sessions like this give homeschool students a social outlet as well as a skills boost.

Registration is handled online through the organizer's event page.

Homeschool parents weighing it should check that page for current availability.

For tweens and teens who learn best by doing, it could be a standout afternoon.
