Brookhaven Strengthens Support for Local Veterans |
Brookhaven Welcomes New Veterans Services Officer to Assist Local Veterans |
Brookhaven Town has welcomed retired Staff Sergeant Nicholas Westcott as its new Veterans Services Officer. Appointed in April through the Suffolk County Veterans Services Division, Westcott brings 23 years of Active Duty Air National Guard service and extensive experience assisting fellow veterans.
Working from Brookhaven Town Hall, Westcott helps veterans identify and apply for Town, State, and Federal benefits, complete necessary paperwork, and connect with additional resources. He said many veterans are unaware of the benefits they have earned or mistakenly believe applying for assistance takes resources away from others. Instead, he noted that participation demonstrates the continued need for veteran support programs.
During his military career, Westcott earned numerous honors, including the Air Force Commendation Medal, two Air Force Achievement Medals, multiple Outstanding Unit Awards, and the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary and Service Medals. He also earned a Bachelor of Science in Homeland Security from SUNY Empire State while serving on Active Guard Reserve duty.
Supervisor Dan Panico thanked Westcott for his continued service, saying the benefits available to veterans can be life changing. Councilman Michael Loguercio added that Westcott's expertise will be a valuable resource for veterans and their families throughout Brookhaven.
Veterans seeking assistance can schedule an appointment with the Brookhaven Division of Veterans Services by calling 631-451-6574. The office is located on the first floor of Brookhaven Town Hall at 1 Independence Hill in Farmingville.
