Brookhaven Town is asking residents, business owners, and stakeholders to help shape the community's future through a new online survey and interactive mapping tool.

The initiative is part of the Town's first update to its Comprehensive Land Use Plan since 1996. While Brookhaven has completed several focused studies over the past three decades examining the needs and character of its many communities, this planning effort brings those studies together into one coordinated framework.

What the Plan Will Address

The Comprehensive Plan will establish a unified vision for the Town as a whole, alongside targeted goals and strategies for each of Brookhaven's six Council Districts. The plan will look at both town-wide conditions and local needs within each district.

Between April 22 and May 14, the Town hosted a series of in-person public open house events in each Council District to gather community input. For those who could not attend, the online survey and mapping tool offer another way to participate.

How to Participate

The survey takes approximately ten minutes to complete and covers topics including housing and development, local business and economic opportunities, transportation and mobility, parks and recreation, waterfronts and environmental resources, infrastructure and public services, and quality of life.

In addition to the survey, the project website features an interactive online map where residents can drop a pin and share their thoughts about places that matter to them. Community members can highlight locations where they like to spend time, or areas they feel could benefit from improvements.

This is an opportunity for everyone who lives, works, owns a business, or has a stake in Brookhaven's future to make their voice heard, said Supervisor Daniel Panico. The more input we receive, the stronger and more reflective our Comprehensive Plan will be of the people, neighborhoods, and values that make our Town such a diverse and special place.

Why It Matters Locally

Brookhaven is a diverse community made up of many hamlets and neighborhoods, each with its own history, character, and identity. While many residents identify strongly with their local community, the Comprehensive Plan will guide decision-making, investment, and growth across the entire Town.

Public input gathered through the survey will directly shape the vision and goals of the plan, which will influence land use and zoning decisions for years to come.
