Brookhaven Completes New Recharge Basin and Drainage Upgrades on Hagerman Avenue |
New basin and drainage upgrades aim to curb flooding and protect groundwater in East Patchogue |

The Town of Brookhaven has finished a major stormwater infrastructure project in East Patchogue, Highway Superintendent Daniel P. Losquadro and Councilman Michael Loguercio announced. The work includes a new 1-acre recharge basin, full restoration of 1,000 linear feet of Hagerman Avenue between Montauk Highway and Atlantic Avenue, and the installation of 960 feet of drainage pipe along with 10 new drainage structures.
The recharge basin sits at the intersection of Hagerman Avenue and Stanley Avenue. It's built to capture storm runoff and let it filter naturally back into the groundwater, making it a key piece of the area's flood-mitigation efforts. The $2.2 million project was funded through capital funding.
"Brookhaven Town maintains more than 1,200 recharge basins, each designed to handle up to eight inches of rain, holding it until it can percolate back into the ground," said Superintendent Losquadro. "This newest basin on Hagerman Avenue will help prevent localized flooding and filter pollutants out of the water. I'm grateful to have received capital funding for this important project."
"Thank you to the Highway Superintendent and his hardworking team for completing this project," said Councilman Loguercio. "We'll keep working to improve our infrastructure and meet the drainage needs of our neighborhoods. We're grateful, once again, for their dedication to our community." |
