Bellport Rotary Invites Community to Join Walk to End Alzheimer's

The Bellport Rotary Club is inviting residents to join its team for the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's on Saturday, Oct. 17, at the Suffolk County Farm in Yaphank. Check-in begins at 9 a.m., the opening ceremony starts at 10 a.m., and the two-mile walk steps off at 10:30 a.m. A shortened route will also be available for participants who are unable to complete the full distance.

Bellport Rotarians Titus Kana, Gene Tarver, Mary Elizabeth Kana, and Alie Moya, joined by her daughter Pierce, recently helped promote the event alongside Hope the Bear, the Alzheimer's Association's mascot and symbol of strength. Hope travels throughout the community visiting businesses, nursing facilities, and local events to raise awareness and encourage support for Alzheimer's research and family services.

The Walk to End Alzheimer's raises funds for research initiatives as well as care and support programs for individuals and families affected by the disease. More than 7 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's, including more than 61,800 people on Long Island. Across New York State, an estimated 425,500 people are living with the disease, while more than 776,000 caregivers provide support to loved ones with Alzheimer's or other dementias.

Community members who would like to walk with the Bellport Rotary team can sign up by emailing BellportRotary1@gmail.com or registering online at act.alz.org/yaphank. For additional information about Alzheimer's programs and resources, visit alz.org or call 800-272-3900. Residents are encouraged to participate, support local fundraising efforts, and help advance the fight against Alzheimer's disease.
