Something remarkable is coming to the South Shore of Long Island this August, and Bellport will be at the center of it.

The Village of Bellport is set to host Revisit the Revolution, a powerful traveling exhibit produced by New York State Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation — and it couldn't arrive at a more meaningful moment.

This isn't just a museum display — it's a living, moving celebration of the ideals that built this country.

As the nation marks the 250th anniversary of American independence, the exhibit will run three days — August 10, 11, and 12 — at the Bellport Community Center at 4 Bell Street, open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Admission is free, making it as accessible as the revolution itself once aspired to be.

New York State holds a unique distinction as home to more Revolutionary War sites than any other state in the union, and Revisit the Revolution brings that storied legacy directly to communities across the region.

The traveling exhibit is designed to transport visitors into the human experience of the Revolutionary era — exploring the people, sacrifices, and turning points that forged a nation.

Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine is expected to appear as the opening guest on Monday, August 10, at 10 a.m., lending the occasion both civic weight and a sense of community pride.

His presence signals just how significant this event is for the region.

Visitors looking to deepen the experience are encouraged to step next door to the Bellport-Brookhaven Historical Museum, where a companion exhibit titled Before the Revolution explores pre-Revolutionary life on Long Island. It will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. across all three days.

On the opening Monday, history seekers can also cross Bell Street to the Historic Bellport Fire Department Museum for a glimpse into local firefighting heritage, also open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Together, these three venues create a rare, walkable corridor of history right in the heart of the village.

Founded in the early 1800s as a seafaring community along the Great South Bay, Bellport has always carried a quiet but deep sense of history — and this August, that history gets amplified in extraordinary fashion.

Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult, and no food or drinks are permitted inside the exhibit halls.

For anyone who calls Long Island home, or who simply wants to reconnect with the roots of American democracy, this three-day American Revolution exhibit is not one to miss.
