Today, Sept. 11, marks the 25th anniversary of the terror attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, in which nearly 3,000 people died. Communities across Brookhaven Town are holding memorial events throughout the day.
Where to remember
- 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. - Stony Brook University holds a Day of Remembrance, a day-long series of events.
- 9 to 9:30 a.m. - VFW Post ceremony in Patchogue at 9-11 Memorial Park, Maiden Lane and Cedar Avenue.
- 11:45 a.m. - Ceremony of Remembrance at Brookhaven Town Hall, Independence Hill, Farmingville.
- 1 to 2 p.m. - Congregational Church, Main Street, Patchogue.
- 6:15 to 7 p.m. - Patchogue Fire Department, Jennings Avenue, Patchogue.
- 6 to 8 p.m. - Mayor Jeanne Garant Harborfront Park, Port Jefferson, where the 9/11 Memorial Eagle will be dedicated.
- 7 p.m. - Remembrance ceremony at the Mastic Fire Department, Mastic Road, Mastic.
- 7:30 p.m. - Remembrance ceremony at Bellport Village Dock, Bellport, with South Country Ambulance and the Bellport, Brookhaven, and Hagerman fire departments and VFW Post 8300.
