School Board Highlights: Celebrations, Student Success, and Budget Outlook The latest Board of Education meeting on February 10th opened with recognition of the people and programs that make the district thrive. After welcoming trustees, administrators, and community members, Superintendent Dr. Timothy Harney shared updates and congratulations from across the schools.
A major highlight of the evening was honoring the districtâs Teachers of the Month. Five educators were celebrated for their dedication, creativity, and commitment to helping every student feel supported and successful. Dr. Harney thanked them for living out the district motto, Belong, Believe, Possible.
The superintendent also praised the recent high school musical, Guys and Dolls, calling it another outstanding production. Families were pleased to hear that the Universal Pre-K lottery successfully placed all applicants for next year. Dr. Harney reminded everyone of upcoming events including PSI Love You Day, School Resource Officer appreciation, and winter recess.
Student Delegate Kelly Brookner delivered a lively report highlighting activities at every building. Elementary students enjoyed Global Play Day, World Read Aloud Day, and Penguin Day celebrations. Blue Point Elementary collected 243 cans of soup for local food pantries, and middle school families were invited to upcoming grade-transition information nights. At the high school, winter sports playoffs are underway, and mental health awareness events are planned.
Assistant Superintendent Carrie Lachland presented an early look at the 2026â27 budget. Rising transportation and benefit costs, along with a negative allowable tax levy due to expiring debt, have created a projected budget gap. The district will continue refining the numbers over the coming months to protect programs while remaining fiscally responsible.
The meeting closed with policy approvals and trustee remarks celebrating student achievements and community events.
