Public Hearing Set for $650 Million NYU Langone Hospital-Suffolk Expansion |

A proposed $650 million expansion of NYU Langone Hospital-Suffolk in East Patchogue will come before the Brookhaven Town Board at a public hearing Thursday, Aug. 27, giving residents an opportunity to learn more and weigh in on a major investment in local health care.
The hearing is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Brookhaven Town Hall in Farmingville. Brookhaven Town Supervisor Dan Panico announced the hearing while sharing an architectural rendering of the proposed project.
Plans call for a major expansion of the hospital campus at 101 Hospital Road. Town documents cited by local news outlets describe a new five-story, approximately 322,000-square-foot inpatient pavilion with 144 beds on 13.7 acres of the nearly 36-acre campus. Earlier descriptions of the application have referred to a 270,000-square-foot expansion.
The new hospital construction is estimated at about $400 million, with the remainder of the overall $650 million investment expected to support renovations and modernization of existing facilities. The project would expand a hospital that has served South Shore communities for decades. The facility opened in 1956 as Brookhaven Memorial Hospital and later became Long Island Community Hospital before joining NYU Langone Health, with the merger and rebranding completed in early 2025.
Residents interested in the proposal can attend the Aug. 27 public hearing to hear details and participate in the town's review process. |

What's the issue with the expansion? If it's needed then do it.
