18th Annual Great Brookhaven Cleanup Set for May 16, 2026

Join thousands of residents for the nation's largest organized cleanup event

The Town of Brookhaven invites residents to participate in the 18th Annual Great Brookhaven Cleanup on Saturday, May 16, 2026. This community-wide event, organized by Keep Brookhaven Beautiful and Keep America Beautiful, Inc., in cooperation with Supervisor Daniel J. Panico, is part of the nation's largest organized cleanup, beautification, and community improvement program.

Why Your Participation Matters

According to recent studies, there are more than 50 billion pieces of litter on the ground across America—that's 152 pieces of litter for every American. However, there is encouraging news: littering along U.S. roadways has decreased by 54% over the past decade, thanks to volunteer efforts like the Great American Cleanup.

Last year alone, over 64,000 cleanup events were held nationwide, resulting in more than 146,600 acres of parks, public lands, waterways, trails, and playgrounds being restored by dedicated volunteers.

How to Participate

No matter the size of your group—whether it's a handful of friends, a local club, or a large organization—you can make a meaningful impact in your community. The Great Brookhaven Cleanup offers residents the opportunity to be part of the largest cleanup effort in history, just in time for America's 250th Birthday celebration on July 4, 2026.

Registration and Supplies

Participants can register online at www.brookhavenny.gov or call the Town of Brookhaven Department of Recycling and Sustainable Materials Management at 451-TOWN.

Registered volunteers can pick up FREE gloves, bags, and T-shirts during normal business hours from May 4 through May 15, 9 AM – 4:30 PM at Town Hall, 3rd Floor. Appointments to pick up supplies are necessary and must be made during the registration process.

Make Brookhaven Shine

Join thousands of Brookhaven residents in making our town a cleaner, greener, and more beautiful place to live. Don't wait for someone else to do it—pick a location, gather your group, and volunteer for this year's Great Brookhaven Cleanup!
