BarkFest at Brookhaven Animal Shelter Showcases Adoptable Pets |
Free raffles, a door prize and more than 100 dogs looking for homes on Nov. 1 |

The Brookhaven Animal Shelter is throwing a party for its residents, and the whole community is invited.
BarkFest takes over the shelter on Sunday, November 1, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The shelter is located at 300 Horseblock Road in Brookhaven.
Visitors can meet adoptable dogs and cats, talk with shelter staff and learn how the adoption process works.
Think of it as a fall meet and greet with plenty of wagging tails.
Supervisor Daniel J. Panico announced the event, which is sponsored by Shirley Feed & Pet.
The afternoon also includes a local radio station, free raffles, a door prize and other activities for families.
The raffles and door prize give visitors one more reason to stay a little longer.
More than 100 dogs are waiting at the shelter for homes of their own.
Panico says events like BarkFest are an important way to connect those animals with people ready to adopt.
He also credits shelter staff for the daily care the animals receive, while noting that nothing replaces a family.
His message to residents is simple: come out, enjoy the festivities and consider opening your home.
You don't have to adopt to take part, since showing up also helps raise awareness for the animals still waiting.
Every visit puts another set of eyes on a dog or cat who might otherwise be overlooked.
For families, it's an easy outing with a purpose.
