Mark Grossman, a seasoned communications professional and former school board member, is vying for a seat on the Patchogue-Medford Board of Education in the upcoming election scheduled for Tuesday, May 19.

With the district on the cusp of significant changes, including the appointment of a new superintendent and several board positions up for election, Grossman emphasizes the need for experienced leadership. "This is not a time for on-the-job training," he asserts. "The board must collaborate effectively with the incoming superintendent, attentively listen to all stakeholders, and make decisions that are both responsible and results-oriented."

Grossman's extensive background includes over 15 years teaching communications at Suffolk County Community College and Nassau Community College, coupled with more than two decades in government service. His prior tenure on the South Country Board of Education in the early 2000s provided him with firsthand experience in budgeting, policy development, labor relations, and public accountability.

As a grandparent with a grandson attending Tremont Elementary School, Grossman is deeply invested in the district's success. "I'm not running with an agenda," he states. "I care about this district and believe my background can help the board function thoughtfully and productively."

His campaign underscores practical experience, clear communication, and a commitment to respectful collaboration within the school community. Notably, Grossman has secured endorsements from both the Patchogue-Medford Congress of Teachers and the Civil Service Employees Association, making him the only candidate endorsed by both bargaining units. "I am grateful for the support of the teachers and staff who work with our children every day," he says. "Their endorsement means a great deal to me because they understand the strengths of our schools and the challenges facing students and families."

Improving communication between the district and the community is among Grossman's top priorities. "School districts are complex organizations," he notes. "Parents want to know their children are being supported. Taxpayers want to know their money is being spent responsibly. Teachers and staff want to feel respected and heard. Students need safe, supportive schools where they can learn and grow. A good board member has to listen to all of those voices and help move the district forward."

The Patchogue-Medford School District annual budget vote and board of education election will take place on Tuesday, May 19, with polls open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Voters are encouraged to confirm their assigned school district polling location before Election Day, as these may differ from regular election polling places.
