High school students across the 3rd Senate District are invited to showcase their artistic talent by joining the Liberty Through the Lens photo contest, celebrating the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
Senator Dean Murray encourages local teens in grades 9 through 12 to submit an original photograph that explores freedom, liberty, or our nation’s founding.
Submissions must reflect one of three themes: Hometown Pride, America Through the Decades, or What Freedom Means to You.
Photos must be in JPEG, JPG, or PNG format, with all entries due by April 1, 2026.
Winners will be announced on April 17, 2026, with prizes sponsored by the district office.

The Patchogue Theatre will host a two-day conference, PEACE Forward: Arts in Education + Partnerships, on April 27 and 28, 2026, aiming to showcase arts partnerships that drive student success across Long Island.
Educators, artists, policymakers, and community leaders are invited to explore how collaborative arts programs invigorate schools and communities.
Launched through the Patchogue Arts Council’s PEACE Project and Eastern Suffolk BOCES Arts in Education, the initiative integrates creative learning with College, Career, and Civic Readiness and emphasizes Culturally Responsive Sustaining Education.
Internationally renowned artist Edel Rodríguez will deliver the keynote, speaking on the transformative power of creative expression in public life and education.
The first day highlights hands-on workshops and student showcases, while the second day addresses policy and long-term sustainability, connecting classroom arts innovation to wider economic and equitable opportunity.
