Suffolk County has begun a yearlong commemoration marking the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, inviting residents to explore the region’s deep Revolutionary War roots and local cultural heritage. Through the official site, suffolk250.org, the county is highlighting an expansive series of programs designed to bring history to life while strengthening community pride.

The initiative, led by partners across government, museums, libraries, and civic groups throughout Suffolk County, features historic tours, educational lectures, re-enactments, festivals, and family activities. A new passport book titled Long Island’s Path to Independence encourages residents to visit key Revolutionary-era locations and collect commemorative stamps, creating a hands-on way to explore the county's role in America’s founding story.

Organizers say the project aims to make history accessible while boosting local tourism and supporting cultural institutions. Community groups are also invited to add their own programs to the countywide calendar, helping ensure that the celebration reflects Suffolk’s diverse voices.

Residents are encouraged to learn more, download resources, and explore upcoming events at https://www.suffolk250.org/.
